The picture book “Look Again!” (『じゃない！』) has sold over 100,000 copies and received multiple awards, including the Kenbuchi Ehon no Sato Award. The same concept was also used in a TV commercial for TOYOBO, in which I appeared as the artist. With their rea appearances and attributes hidden, they aim to travel to the moon together. In the process, they gradually learn about each other. Can they overcome their differences in background and values and come to an understanding? Multiple cameras placed in the VR space and in the real world document the entire interaction.With the idea that shifts in perspective can make anyone appear to be an “alien”, we used non-human space-alien avatars. The contributors participated in the shoot from the familiarity of their own rooms, interacting on a VR platform uniquely developed for TV production by NHK. Anonymity allowed the participants to communicate honestly, uninfluenced by each other’s real appearance. Through visual experimentations, I tried to translate the initial impression to something else by deconstructing and reconstructing the forms. The shapes are the shapes extracted from the pictures of fat. However, there is no negative preconception to this object. It’s soft and inviting to touch. you can lay on it or wear it as a protective layer. Name-calling is a negative experience that causes distress and is hurtful because it threatens one's identity. The project is built on the results of a series of interviews with young adults about the experience of being called names that they hate and how that experience affected them. It uses an approachable and playful visual language designed to communicate that tension between something that might seem innocuous but is harmful. The stickers positioning on the subject face illustrates the physical discomfort and harm of name-calling. With their growing population, they are more and more hated as pests. However, they take habitat in urban city because of our lifestyle. How we leave trash on the street attracts them, and how we destroy nature forces animals to move to the city. They already have a life structure in the city, just like us humans. We brought the model to the actual area that has high population density of those animals to take the pictures.
